Hey, anybody know when this picture was taken?

full-size under the cut )

Looking at the photo, I'd twig it for 1973 or so; looking at the guy in the photo, I'd think maybe thirty? I got it from this management profile thing that spells Jemaine wrong in the URL and appears to have been updated through 2006. (Who knew Outback Pete had a name?)

Seasoning Vegtable Foil Packs For Grilling [Jul. 5th, 2008|09:34 am]

[Mood |hungry]

Hey Everyone, I did a quick scan through the tags and didn't see one, but let me know if I missed it.

I'm going camping a few times in the next couple months (including next weekend) and I was looking for grilling suggestions. (We also have a cook stove available)

I'd like to do several different vegetable mixes in foil packets.

Does anyone have any ideas or recipes/cook times/marinate ideas? I don't usually season except for salt and garlic and I'd like some new ideas. Mmmm, garlic. And I was thinking about maybe flavoring the squash and zucchini with soy sauce.

Veggies I have: red/yellow new potatoes, red/white onions, yellow squash and zucchini, baby bella mushrooms (I am planning on throwing a pot on the grilling with onions and mushrooms for sandwichs), asparagus (I currently plan on just grilling these alone with olive oil), beets, carrots, and broccoli (don't plan on grilling the broccoli)

(and I know I'm spoiled, just got back from the farmers market)

Has anyone had any luck grilling tofu?  I was maybe thinking about doing kabobs with onions, shrooms, cherry tomatoes, and tofu, but I don't know what I'm doing.

I made this last night and it was delicious, easy and awesome

-2 sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed

-1tsp allspice

-1 1/2 tsp cinnemon

-1 tbsp brown sugar

-1/2 cup corn oil

-a few dashed chipotle hot sauce

I just mixed together the oil, hot sauce + seasonings, made a loooong foil pack, put in the potatoes and topped with the oil mixture.  I preceded to cook on the grill for 1 hour.  Deliciousness!  Followed by fruit kabobs....

ps, I'm not good with tags, help?

Lemon Pound cake from VCON -- can I make it a cake? [Jul. 4th, 2008|03:15 pm]

[meowed]
[Tags|, , ]

So in my continuing effort to veganelize my coworkers, I need a birthday cake for my boss. She LOVED the lemon pound cake and said it was, hands down, her favorite thing I'd made so far. Someone suggested I see about making it a bundt cake for her birthday this Monday.

Now, when I took it to work, it was the first one I'd made and it was just unbelievably perfect - extremely moist and sweet and buttery. Perfect. I made it again the next day, with the exact same ingredients, and it didn't come out nearly as well. It took a lot longer to bake and the texture was a little funky. It tasted great but it wasn't perfect. So I know it can be kind of a touchy recipe.

I can only get my hands on Whole Soy's lemon yogurt so it'll have to be that, if it matters.

So, has anyone tried making it a bundt cake? What if I tried baking it in a regular cake pan? Would I need to double the recipe and cook it longer? Thoughts, suggestions?

TIA!

request: vegan thoreau picnic food?? [Jul. 4th, 2008|04:06 pm]

 hello all,

this community looks pretty amazing.

i am taking my sweetheart on a surprise day at Walden Pond.  I would like to keep a theme, and make picnic food that is old-timey/ thoreau-esque and vegan.  i have had very little luck researching what kind of stuff thoreau ate, only that he ate a lot of beans, which do not strike me as a very romantic food.  the entries in the picnic memories all seem pretty modern.  an important point is that it be reasonably portable- much of the old time type food i've found does not lend itself well to traveling.  so basically, i'm seeking old-fashioned(like 1800s) portable food that is vegan.

Thanks a lot!   I know it's a long shot.

p.s.  to offer an idea, before i thought i might want a theme was going to make springrolls with rice wrappers, marinated tofu, vermicelli and other tasty things; bring cherries; and for dessert, have vegan brownies cut into hearts with a cookie cutter. ^_^  actually, i might stick with the cherries and brownies.  need a main course though.

any thoughts on the cotton spandex jersey skort? i'm 5'5", 110lbs, 27" waist, size 3/4 (UK8). skinny thighs.

i'd prefer it a little looser than shown in the main photos so it doesn't hug my hip & butt too much. something like this would be great:

i normally wear an M for AA bottoms such as the interlock running shorts because i don't want bottoms to be too clingy, but some of the reviews state that the skorts run big. help!

I'm getting rid of a lot of clothes I haven't had the chance to wear, or don't wear often. Help a girl out (-: I accept Paypal, cash through the mail, and postal money orders. Prices include shipping if you are located in the US.

Just for reference, I'm 5'1", 33-23-33.

RSAS313 Sheer Rib Short Sleeve Scoop Neck Dress in OS - Mint Link to AA
This dress is a one-sized dress. It's really sexy, and a bit sheer. You can wear it with the neck high or turn it around and the neck's low. The problem with this dress (and I have this in 3 other colors) is that it stretches out easily. The shape is still sexy but it doesn't cling to your body like the first time you put it on. Put it in the wash and it goes back to its original size. I've worn this only once and had it in the laundry room where bleach was accidentally dripped onto the upper left sleeve (if you wear it on the low neck side), the stains are each about 2 cm long. I was going to bleach it white but decided against it. It's perfect otherwise.
$22.50 Retails for $35.00

Also under the cut:
RSA8340 Cotton Spandex Jersey Double U-Neck Dress in S - Forest $24.50
Opaque Over-the-Knee Tri-Tone Footless Sock in Black $9.50

Pictures of the damage )

Pay before Monday and it will probably be shipped Monday. Thanks!

Question on shorts [Jul. 4th, 2008|05:37 pm]

[entropic_artist]
Has anyone tried on the new acid wash denim running shorts? Do they fit small or large generally? What do you think of them?  I'm wondering if the large would fit a size 8/10 or not. And if they're very stretchy. Doesn't seem they would be being 1 percent spandex.

I made these brownies a couple days ago. They turned out really well. I had to make some substitutions so they didn't end up as rich or as dense as I remember them.

acai [Jul. 4th, 2008|03:27 pm]

pardonmesir
im trying to enhance my lifestyle so that i be live happier and healthier,
and all i could come up with were rules to live by... these are them:

# 1 - stay home more.

when you are having moments of sharing with close family and friends instead of going out to party, you are enriching your relationships as well as saving money.

that is not say you should never go out, once a week or twice a month is a good ammount.

# 2 - excercise.

people that work out are healthier and prettier, and if you do it as a couple or buddy thing it has better results because you have someone to encourage and encourage you. it is also an oppotunity to do activities with other people.

# 3 - eat smart.

burger king is delicious, but it should be something you almost never eat because its unhealthy and you money goes away on food too quickly that way, eat right and at home so you can save up and buy better stuff.

just like going out, once in a while its not bad to endulge in an outside dining experience.

# 4 - have sex but not too much.

i recommend 3 times a week, too much can have bad out comes... this is one of those things where less is more. seriously.

# 5 - dont wear make up everyday.

give your face a break to clear up and you'll notice how naturally pretty you are...
a confidence boost never hurt anyone and natural beauty is the best kind.

# 6 - enjoy the little things.

or you will be less happy more often. learn recipes, take pictures, get a pet, grow flowers, whatever... its going to get you through everyday life with a better attitude and if possible have a "night" and make it a weekly thing to do something. movie night, breakfast for dinner night, video game night, or a "morning" whatever...

# 7 - give.

selfish people suck... share with friends/family, take less notice in material things and enjoy the people around instead, go out of your way to do things for people you care about because it makes them know they are valued.
DISCLAIMER: this does not mean to let people use you for everything, be wise when choosing friends for this reason.

# 8 - talk.

if you have a disagreement with someone the best thing to do is sit down and explain how you felt and why and if necessary to apologize, to walk away just makes the situation worse in the sense that it hurts the other person more and it leaves you looking like a total jerk.

# 9 - safety.

eat safe, drive safe, sex safe, just... be safe. i dont mean "BE OCT ABOUT ALL THINGS SAFE", but know that things happen to people and you're no different from anyone else therefore take the necesary precautions to avoid danger.

# 10 - honesty is the best policy.

a lie surrounds itself with lies that turn into more lies and people will soon discover you're full of shit. dont lie to anyone unless you feel it is absolutely neccesary to avoid danger.

Raspberries Galore [Jul. 4th, 2008|11:46 am]

[Location |Seattle]

Hi Everybody,

I recently moved into a new place that has a wealth of raspberries growing in the backyard. Every day we probably pick about 5 or so cups of berries.

I have no idea what to make with all of these berries.
A pie would be the obvious answer, but I am still trying to find a good raspberry pie recipe.

But, with all these berries, we'll have enough to make something other than pie. Any suggestions?
